Getting creative with your content: Next level advertising on social media

By 24th September 2020News

With over 40% of the world’s population on social media (Hubspot, 2020), it’s critical your business devise an effective social media strategy to reach your intended audience. In 2019, 90.4% of Millennials and 77.5% of GenX were active social media users (Emarketer), spending an average of 2 hours and 22 minutes each day on social networks and messaging (Globalwebindex). As a result of this exponential increase in demand, social media networks are increasing the number of ways you can engage with users, and we’re finding that there are more and more creative ways of displaying paid content.

Fortunately, the days of influencers posting an overly-posed, staged image of themselves using a product that neither reflects their lifestyle nor their values seems to be coming to an end. Instead, we’re seeing some amazing sponsored content popping up on our channels, which makes watching sponsored and paid advertising SO much more palatable. Using TikTok’s video editing capabilities and Instagram’s Reels feature, people are creating some amazing work.

Here are a few of our favourites from Instagram:

@allthatisshe: Creative duo Dom and Dom use a mixture of stop-frame photography and clever photo editing to create some amazing effects. This example is an ad/partnership with classic toy company Slyvanian Families: check out the super cute tea-drinking bunnies!

Fashion and beauty blogger @inthefrow got creative with an ad for luxury hotel 131 Cheltenham in this funny post – the genuine look of joy at the end makes it even better for us.

Self-professed ‘accidental Instagrammer’ @comedowntothewoods created this fab video when working for Panasonic to advertise their new microwave. Instead of a series of static images featuring the product, the interiors blogger chose to use stop-frame images and graphic overlays to create something much more engaging and exciting.

Reels and TikTok videos are widely used in fashion marketing, for example this post from @asos showing a range of looks – we’re also loving the diversity and different body shapes shown!

Lastly, but by no means least, our very own TikTok king Andy Wilkinson shows us all how it’s done with his ‘commute to work’ video!
