Digbeth Doodles – May 2020

By 27th May 2020July 20th, 2020Podcast

Today’s podcast is the first that we bring you from lockdown! Trialling a new way of working and recording a podcast without all being in the same room, so bear with us!

Ten weeks in now, we’re adapting well to lockdown life. For the most part, the creative industry has been well geared towards working in an agile manner for a long time. We’re used to using various team working tools such as Slack and Microsoft Teams, as well as Zoom and other conferencing tools.

We’ve used this time to ensure that we are keeping in touch with clients as often as possible, with a focus on how we can shift their strategy to align with pandemic restrictions and changes in consumer behaviour. By keeping in touch with clients once or twice a week, we’re actually finding that we’re more engaged with our clients than ever before, and we’re discovering new tasks and projects that have perhaps fallen by the wayside behind day-to-day business tasks.

SO. Down to business: which ad campaigns have caught our eye during lockdown?

Chris and Shari discuss the updated Budweiser campaign, which plays on the now retro ‘Wasssssup’ campaign some of you may remember! With a focus on checking in on your friends and mental health awareness, we really thought this campaign worked. You can view it here: https://youtu.be/D9UahJH5r3k

Other ad campaigns that we’ve found during lockdown can be found on our blog post here: https://www.owb.uk.com/owbs-top-lockdown-campaigns-that-will-give-you-a-fuzzy-feeling/

Cure Leukaemia

As many of you know, we do a lot of work with a fantastic charity, Cure Leukaemia. Claire discusses how the charity sector have been hit hard by the pandemic, with most of their main fundraising events for the year cancelled. To combat this, we’ve been coming up with ways to raise money remotely, including the fab initiative ‘Boredom Bangers’. Cefetra

It’s really interesting to see how the COVID-19 pandemic has actually been an opportunity for certain business sectors, with farming and agriculture being one of these – keeping Britain fed with restrictions on travel and import have led to a major business boost for Cefetra. We’ve been working with them on social media, print, digital marketing and video content. It’s an area we think will continue to grow and we’re really excited to be working with them. OWB social media

Now more than ever, we’ve also tried to really bring a sense of fun to our social media, with games, quizzes, exercise challenges and activities each week to bring us together as a team. We’ve also had a weekly themed quiz on our Zoom update calls. Regardless of what is going on work wise, we’re a bunch of friends here, and I think that this really shines through on our social media page. We can’t be together physically, but we’re still a tight-knit team. If we can make you guys smile, then that’s good for us!

It’s also been a great way for us to experiment with social channels that we’ve not used much for clients previously, such as TikTok and Instagram stories.

One of the things we really appreciate is the need for different thinking, particularly into a digital space. COVID-19 changed the way we do business overnight, and marketers have had to replan and re-evaluate. We’ve found our offer of a free Zoom marketing consultation has worked really well for clients and prospects – now is a great time to look at optimising your digital offering – which channels should you turn on, which should be turned off, how can we use analytics to optimise our strategy. It’s an exciting opportunity that will continue for a longer period of time.
